About Fumihiko Maki

Fumihiko Maki is one of the most prominent global architects of his generation. Through his architecture, writing, and teaching, Maki established himself as a public intellectual and standard bearer for the profession of architecture in Japan and internationally. Over six decades of practice, he has contributed significantly to the built environment, architectural discipline, and practice. His long list of awards includes the Thomas Jefferson Award in Architecture, the International Union of Architects Gold Medal, the Praemium Imperiale Award, and the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal. In 1993, he received the Pritzker Prize, the profession’s most prestigious award.

Scope of the Archive

We are organising informations on various materials that show the footsteps of Fumihiko Maki and collects those that are opportune.  

We welcome the interest of historians, theorists, academics, practitioners, students, and others engaged in relevant research projects by providing opportunities to access materials related to Fumihiko Maki.  

We offers a course titled “Urbanism Ideas and Architecture of Fumihiko Maki”  donated by Takenaka Corporation, as an opportunity for students to learn from the works and materials of Mr. Fumihiko Maki.

Keio University was founded in 1858 by Yukichi Fukuzawa, a distinguished scholar and champion of social reform and modernization. Keio is the oldest institute of western higher education in Japan and among its most prestigious. 

Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) is one of 11 Keio University campuses in Tokyo and Kanagawa prefecture, Japan. Fumihiko Maki designed most of the SFC campus, which opened in 1990.
